WOOT MATH HONORED BY NYC SCHOOLS GAP APP CHALLENGE

Boulder, Colorado — May 28, 2013 — Woot Math, developed by Woot Math, a new Boulder-based education software startup, was selected as one of the winners of the New York City Department of Education’s Gap App Challenge. The contest challenged software developers to submit apps that enhance math learning for middle school students. Woot Math’s new Woot Math application was selected to receive Honorable Mention along with $8,000 in prizes. The Gap App winners also have the chance to be piloted in NYC iZone schools.

Over the next several months, Woot Math and the other challenge winners will each pair with an iZone school and work collaboratively with the school to refine their product and provide teachers with implementation support. In January Mayor Michael Bloomberg said “the pioneering new technology we gain through the Gap App Challenge will better prepare more students for their future.”

About Woot Math

Woot Math™ is designed to help middle school math teachers with the range of mathematical fluency in their classes. Woot Math is delivered on tablets and intended to provide independent, supplement learning in the classroom. It leverages the intuitive, tactile tablet interface to present math concepts in new ways and interleaves recorded explanations with interactive problems. The content provided by Woot Math is not closed, and teachers can use their own tablet to easily record themselves working an example problem or explaining a new concept to share with their students. Woot Math will launch this fall. The technology that powers Woot Math was developed by Woot Math™, a Boulder-based education software startup founded in March, 2013. Prior to Woot Math, the same team founded Kerpoof®, which has been widely adopted in K-5 classrooms and was acquired by Disney.
